Antoine Coypel was a child prodigy who began producing important and successful paintings and drawings as a teenager. His father, Noel Coypel and artist, Charles Le Brun influenced his early work. As he matured, his paintings depicted more of the influence of Peter Paul Rubens. Because the French royalty had little time to devote to art during the war in the lat 1600’s, Coypel earned his living though private commissions. In 1715, he was appointed le premier peintre du Roi, the King’s primary painter.
